'CAUSE I GOT PAID!

I would like to holler. Here's to being a "grown up" and getting my first out-of-college salaried pay check. We didn't think we'd get it until Monday... but oh no no, the glory of direct deposit. HOLLER! But I can't go spend it all. I've been a shopping maniac - but I feel it's justified (isn't it always) because I didn't really anticipate how darn hot it would be here. A girl does need to keep her cool. And if that means sitting down on the ground and rifling through boxes at the Urban Outfitters Sidewalk sale, by golly I'm there. Rather I was. I played the "how much money did I save?" game. I spent 36.00 on a handful of garmets. After adding up the original prices on the tags, I calculated that I had purchased 372 bucks worth of merch. HOLLER. 10%. Urban is so ridiculously overpriced. I mean sometimes they are spot on, and have to die for pieces, but most of the time it's 36.00 goodwill shirts. I guess I'm just bitter because I will never have the "totally-random-but-meticulously-orchestrated-i'm-a-hipster/scenester-aka-my-sister-laura" style. I just look like a slob. So back to J.Crew for me. AYE AYE MATEY!

Evanston has been hot as heck lately. Like, disgustingly hot. UGH! I sweat more than a 90 minute soccer match just walking the 4 blocks to CVS. I'm perpetually in a sauna, but I'm hardly glowing. ERNT.

The ELC's had lunch/tour yesterday at SAE headquarters. OH MY GOD. What a structure. It was truly wonderful. They have a huge house, offices, a chapel, and a museum. I lot of history. A lot of beautiful art, stained glass windows, the arcitecture is amazing. Wow. I took a lot of pictures and will upload them soon - I just have to figure out my computer/internet.

OH BTW we got our computers but the wireless is a little hit-or-miss in the office, so we'll see how long it takes me to get stuff posted. OK gotta go peace out.

I'm tired...

Bah. It was a very long night last night which has made for a very long day today. I'm not very good at sitting still for very long, especially from 9:00 - 5:00. E-Gad! I'm hoping to call it a absurdly early night and get to bed at a decent hour (I sure didn't last night, we had to celebrate Cookie's birthday! The Texas girl wanted some Mexican food - hilarity ensued).

I figure just when I get used to Evanston as a place to live, it will be time to hit the road. My anxiety is starting to set in about being around people all the time. Is that bad? I mean, I'm just someone who values their own time and space. It's just going to take some adapting. I guess that's part of the job description.

I got my job assignments and I hit the road pretty soon here. I leave for OU on August 4th, will be there until I leave for Iowa, then off to Texas, then back up to Missouri. In the month of august alone, I will be in 4 new states. I need to get one of those stickers like they have on the back of RV's that get filled in everytime you get to a new state. I'm at a weak 13 right now. I'm hoping it will be doubled by the time I'm done (at this rate, it will double in 3 months...)

OK - I'm going to go make sense of the ground by my bunkbed that is making up my "personal space" YIKES. Until next time (probably next week...)

It's been a week...

... and the novelty that is Evanston has yet to wear off...

Besides the fact that most things close Irvinishly early (i guess it's a "summer thing"), it definitley has a college town feel. I really hope I get a chance to explore the Northwestern campus and see the beach. I feel like my weekends are spent doing the errand-y things I can't do between 9-5 on the weekdays... which is a total change for this studio art major who had a ton of night classes!!!

I still need to get into Chicago and tap the resources and see the sights. I need to make a day to do the Chicago Institue of Art... I'm suprised I haven't gone. I'd also like to see the Field Museum - they're hosting King Tut there. I saw him, rather a bunch of his stuff, in LA - and as a museum geek I like to compare how the same show is curated in different locations.

We got our assignments for the first month, and boy am I going to be EVERYWHERE. In August, I will be going to 4 states I have yet to set foot in. I get to color them in on the map now. HOLLER. But more about the specifics of that later... It's late here and I've had too much fun this weekend and need to get back to the grind nice and early tomorrow AM.

Finally in Chicago (Evanston.. whatever)

Hello Hello Hello!

I can tell I already have a loyal throng of readers. To you, I thank you for your patience in getting this up. I started this blog like 3 weeks ago and this will be my first "legit" post. However, this is not even going to be that legit.

So I've officially moved into Alpha Phi headquarters for the three weeks of training for my job, as an Educational Leadership consultant. The other 7 girls with the job this year are amazing, I can't imagine anyone that I could wake up with, share a bathroom with, eat breakfast with, work from 9-5, go out to drinks with and then some and not get cranky or bored with - so far so good! We did a geography activity today and it's fun to see and then compare where we're all from (and share where we hope to go)

The only destination that has been confirmed so far is Oklahoma. We have a huge expansion project there and actually all 8 of us will be there for the first week. It will be very exciting to work on a project of this magnitude at a Big 12 school!!! I will have my full schedule (through October at least!!!) next Monday. Don't worry - I'll keep you all posted.

Well, that's all for now - everyone is downstairs doing more bonding. I guess I better stop being anti-social and go be a sorority girl. My US Weekly and Diet Pepsi is waiting...

Ok. Re-starting this blog thing. Gonna try this just to see how this all works. Then, I have to clean my room (haha!)
