The T-Rex

So you may or may not know, I'm in Norman, Oklahoma for the next few weeks. I'm helping out my girl Laura with the colony here. In addition to drinking in all that this glorious college town has to offer, I've been doing all sorts of lovely colony tasks.

One would think that this is a pretty cool opportunity - don't get me wrong, it is - to start a colony at a Big-12-Bigger-Greek-Bigger than LIFE campus, but man, what a workload. I've taken for granted the idea of coming into something established. These women have NOTHING to serve as an example of how this should or will run as a sorority. Except Laura.

Poor girl, her phone rings OFF THE HOOK. I'd always thought that was an expression that implied greatness. Nah. Between volunteers, staff, OU administration, and the members her phone literally rings every minute. Every minute.

"Um Laura, I have to sneeze. Is it ok that I'm an Alpha Phi and that I sneeze?"

It feels like that sometimes...

And about the T-Rex.

Life in Norman, OK revolves around OU. And the Sooners. And being sure that the Sooners are Boomin'. Coming from a college sans a football team this culture fascinates me. Call me Margaret Mead, but I feel like I should be wearing khakis and using a voice recorder to tape my discoveries. Let me tell you about some of my revelations about life in Oklahoma:

1) Wal Mart is accepted and praised. And i'm getting on the bandwagon. Anywhere that you can buy a printer, drill (or what my poor, dear, braindead Laura called a "screw gun"), and a chocolate bar at 1:34 AM I'm all about. And let me tell you - I have done all three. Oh, and I got a poster with horses on it. Laura was embarrassed.

2) Sonic's "coney" (translation: big ass hotdog) is HUGE. Like 34845 feet. Equivalent to like 3 california hot dogs (which are probably like portion controlled and made out of all organic tofu on a 94 Grain bun) this sucker comes with chili and cheese. Note: don't put it in your purse - the chili WILL leak out.

3) Again, another observation about Sonic. Best damn ice ever. You can even buy just a bag of their ice. Laura wouldn't let me. Its like snow cone ice. It's like heaven. The best part is eating the ice after you're done with your pop. (yes, i said pop) Someone once described it as "turd ice". Though an accurate description, it's disgusting. But I dont care. I still love it.

4) People are obsessed with the Sooners. Whether they are obsessed with college, students, football team, or whatever is still a mystery. But OBSESSION. They will paint anything crimson and thrown an "O" and a "U" on it and call it a day. Items that I have seen be Sonnerscized include: drapes, earrings, purses, trashcans, pewter crossees ("God Bless Oklahoma"), car horns that play the fight song, couch covers, pillows, underwear, tie-dyed shirts, address markers, chairs, lamps, baby clothes, welcome mats, bumper stickers, clocks, and so much more.....

And there is a museum like a stones throw from the apartment where we're staying. And there is a T-Rex. So every time we drive to the Alpha Phi house, or to campus, or to WalMart the T Rex smiles at us adoringly through the window. Chomp.

God Bless Oklahoma... and God Bless T Rex

i know i suck

Ok - i admit it - I suck at blogging. Hard.

I actually think i have the potential to be a great blogger, but my add prevents me from that. And i'm not using ADD as a scapegoat, or excuse. It's valid, kids. Straight up Ty-Peddinton-valid.

That reminds me. Once, after listening to my sister (whose ADD is exponentially worse than mine...) go on a monologue that included Eminem quotes I decided that a really good SNL skit would be "the ADD rapper". We made up some ADD raps. It was pretty funny. And white-kid friendly.

Yah. Blogging is one of those things that I think if i actually wrote in this enough eventually something funny, witty, or even novel would blurt out. But avast, (that was my word of the day last week) I'm just not doing it enough to get the ratio high. I think it's one of those - how long would you have to have apes at a typewritter before you get shakespeare kind of deals.

Regardless. Speaking of weird mental things that distract you, my eye has been twitching for 4 days non stop. Right above my left eyelid. If you catch it at just the right time it looks like i'm trying to give someone butterfly kisses, or I just OD'd on caffiene pills Jesse Spanos style. "I'M SO EXCITED! I'M SO EXCITED! I'M SO SCARED" yes. yes. yes.

well. on that note, and after writing another sucktastic blog, i need to go to bed. and not because i don't have anything else to say (because I do... oh I do... I could write a book...i just might... I heard a Kappa consultant sold her travel journal to a movie company and is getting a flick made...) but because i can't focus on the screen with my eye twitching.

pax.
