i was watching the five minute clip of this strangers face waxing and waining and eroding remaining emotionless while his skin and hair reacted to time. my sister was watching it with me. she turned to me and said "why is this making you sad?"

and it wasn't - but i guess i was zoning out and my expression had led to something like concern, angst, or longing.

it was kind of a scene from a zach braff kind of movie - just the way she looked at me and said it. but without getting all philosophical and ish - it did make me sad. i wonder if it makes him sad...

"The Good Land"

Ok. I really like Wisconsin. I really, really do. Madison and Milwaukee. Two great towns. And I'm not just saying that because UW-Madison has been rated the top-party school (only to fall behind this yeare to power player UT Austin) and Milwaukee, home of the Miller Brewery, is called "the drunkest city in the us", Good times. Good times.

6 days until my birthday. HOLLER. Actually I take that bad. NOt ready to be that deep into my twenties. ERNT!

What A Pity

The best thing about this visit so far is the theatre kitty-corner from the Alpha Phi house. I haven't seen a movie in the theatre probably since training in July. Wait, I'm lying - I saw Taladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby in Iowa with my UNI girls. "I'm gonna stick you in the microwave!" I was really stoked to go tonight - and by myself no less! The movie was great. LIttle Miss Sunshine - I'm all about awkward movies - I adored it. I have a massive crush on Steve Carrell. Funny = #1 in my book. But here's where it starts to suck...

i was the only one in this massive theater besides a couple and this one cute guy with longish hair
and we walked out at the same time and went to the same trash can
total movie moment right
and he's like "not a good movie to see by yourself"
and i'm like "well, it wasn't that bad - i laughed out loud"
and he's like "yeah"
and i'm like "gotta love steve carrell"
and then we both walked out doors and in the opposite direction
the end

are you cringing yet? I still am.

there was this guy sitting across from me while i was waiting for my flight out of Salt Lake City Airport (it was an hour and a half late, btw) and this guy is chomping on chicken wings, right. like really freakin' going at them - sucking meat off the bone like he hadn't eaten in 34 years or that the Pizza Hut wing sauce was just that delicious.

So this was kind of making me feel uncomfortable. It was on his face and I wanted to give him a moist towelette.

THEN. He takes the little plastic package of Ranch dressing that comes with it... opens it... and SIPS IT. Doesn't smell it, lick it, or god forbid stick the chicken bones in it but he SIPS IT - LIKE A CUP OF FREAKING TEA. And then does it a few more times.

Excuse me, I have to go PUKE NOW.

TOWER OF POWER

Sad news has come my way.

I heard, via Facebook wall, that Tower Records is closing. I don't know how I feel. I'm sad. It's like. You just go to Tower.

Tower Records is a Sacramento-Based chain of record stores. The great thing about it is that even though it's a chain that's all over from California to Washington DC it still feels like your little tiny neighborhood shop. Hand written dividers, really eclectic stuff, a stack of OC/SAC Weekly and freelance zines, local band posters everywhere, elitist tatted rivers-cuomo wanna be's wearing a name tag with 1" band buttons rolling their eyes as they direct you to the Johnny Cash.

Some people have habits, vices, weaknesses. I watched peers in college blow a paycheck on purses or glasses or jeans. I had a problem with shopping, but not for those things. For me, records is it. I wasn't a huge Tower shopper, but it's just such a part of my own history, and my hometown's history. I remember my Dad and Uncle talking music and it would always come up. When I moved down to Southern California I remember feeling a sense of calm when I saw the red and yellow sign as I drove towards PCH.

So to Tower - I salute you. Thank you for making me feel like I could be a music snob - even though I failed a bit. And in this time of sorrow,

I am forced to ask myself: WWRGD?
